Shanghai is a Chinese city and is one of the four municipality of the People's Republic of China. It is the biggest commercial hub of China and is the city with the most number of skyscrapers in China. It is situated in the Eastern Coast of China on the Yangtze estuary. With 24.2 million population it is the second largest populated city in the world. It is now a global city with advanced infrastructure and dynamic
transportation system and is the showpiece of China's growth and development. Along with these, Shanghai has developed too many tourist destinations which are attracting millions of tourists every year to the city. Some of the most famous and the most visited tourist attractions in Shanghai are -

1. Oriental Pearl Tower


     Oriental Pearl Tower is basically a Radio and TV tower located at the Pudong region of Shanghai City. With 468 meters height, it's a skyscraper and was the tallest building in the entire China from 1994 to 2007 until it was surpassed by the Shanghai World Financial Center. It's a modern architectural marvel designed by the indigenous designers Jiang Huan Chen, Zhang Xuilin and Lin Benlin. The building is lit up by the LED lights in the night which is just awesome and increases the beauty of the Tower to a great extent. It's a mixed- use building, primarily for communication and hotel, restaurant and observatory. You can taste different Chinese as well as different international dishes from the restaurants situated on the tower. The highest observation deck of the tower situated at a height of 351 meters, which provides a spectacular view of the city of Shanghai.

2. Shanghai Disney Resort


     The Shanghai Disney Resort is located in Pudong, Shanghai. It is a new Disney Resort opened in June/2016 and is spreaded across 3.9 sq.kms. It cost 5.5 billion US dollars to build. It is a joint venture between Walt Disney Company and Shanghai Shendi Group and 57% of the construction cost was funded by Shendi group and the rest 45% was funded by Walt Disney Company. There are seven themed space in the Shanghai Disney Resort- Fantasyland, Treasure Cove, Mickey Avenue, Adventure Isle, Gardens of imagination, Toy story land and Tomorrow land. In the very first year of its opening it attracted 5.6 million visitors. In the year 2019, attracting 11.8 million visitors it became the the 8th most popular Disney Resort in the world.

3. Shanghai Zoo


     Shanghai Zoo is basically an ecological garden and is also known as Shanghai Zoological Garden. It is situated in the Changning District of Shanghai. The zoo was formerly known as '' Xijiao Park''. The Shanghai Zoo is home to 6000 animals and is also an exhibition Center of these animals. Only a small number of the animals are indigenous to China and the maximum number of animals are brought in from different parts of the world. So, it's the best place to have a glimpse of such a huge variety of animals at a single place. Besides enjoying the beauty of these animals you can do an in-depth study about the animals and their habits and you can understand them. It's a great place to fall in love with animals and thereby understanding the need to animal preservation. It's a must visit place when you're on a visit with children because they are very fond of animals and they are definitely gonna enjoy the variety of animals.

4. The Bund


     The Bund (meaning Outer beach) is a waterfront area located at the Central Shanghai Region. It is situated on the western Bank of the Huangpu river. There are numerous old and modern architectural buildings which are unique in styles. It has become a leisure and relaxation point from the busy lifestyle of Shanghai. This is a popular walking and jogging area. From the Bund you can have a spectacular view of the amazing buildings of the city of Shanghai.

5. Nanjing Road


     Nanjing Road is a 5.5 kms long crowded pedestrian road in Shanghai. It is the busiest shopping street in Shanghai and is also one of the busiest shopping streets in the whole world. The eastern part of the Nanjing is the busiest in general. The both side of the Nanjing road/ street are filled with thousands of traditional Chinese departmental stores and food courts. But in the mean time you can find numerous modern shopping malls, restaurants, cafeterias and theatres alongside the Nanjing Road attracting millions of domestic and international visitors. It is specially a shoppers paradise.

6. Zhujiajiao


     Zhujiajiao is a beautiful water town situated in the Qinpu District of Shanghai. It was established 1,700 years back. There are numerous rivers flowing across Zhujiajiao.The houses are built on each side of the roads and are connected by numerous bridges. The main transportation mode is by boat. It is more like Venice in Italy. Hence, many a times Zhujiajiao is referred to as the Venice of Shanghai. The water town of Zhujiajiao is reachable by Metro and bus from Shanghai. Taking a metro ride to Zhujiajiao from Shanghai and exploring the beauty of the water town is an amazing thing to do in Shanghai.

7. Shanghai Museum


     Shanghai Museum is one of the first world- class Arts Museum in the People's Republic of China. It is located at the People's Square in the Huangpu District of China. The museum was originally established at 1952 but was renovated with the current modern infrastructure back in 1996. The museum houses different arts and artifacts of Shanghai as well as China from the past. Currently, the museum has a collection of more than 1.2 million pieces of different domestic and international arts and artifacts. It has eleven galleries and three exhibition halls. Each of the galleries showcases ancient art and artifacts of Chinese Bronze, Paintings, Sculpture, Ceramics, Jade's, Calligraphy, Furniture etc. So, by visiting the museum you have an in-depth knowledge of rich past of Chinese art and culture.

8. Yu Garden


     The Yu Garden or the Yuyuan Garden is located in the Huangpu district of Shanghai. It is an old and classical  garden built in the year 1559 by Pun Yundun for his father's leisure and relaxation place. The Garden is spread across five acres of land. There are several halls, rockeries, ponds etc inside the garden e.g, Jade rock, Sansui hall, Relic hall, Yangshan hall, stone boat etc. This is a perfect quiet and solitary place to get relaxed. Apart from getting relaxed you can experience an absolute visual pleasure by observing different natural scenery inside the garden. The view of the  fishes playing in the clear water of the pond is another amazing thing to enjoy in the Yu garden.

9. Shanghai Science and Technology Museum


     Shanghai Science and Technology Museum is a large modern scientific museum located at 2000 century Avenue, Pudong, Shanghai. The museum was built with an ambition to popularize science and technology in the Yangtze Delta region. The theme of the museum is " The Harmony of Nature, Mankind and Technology". It is so large that it has 14 permanent exhibitions and 4 themed theaters. The 14 permanent exhibitions of the museum are - Earth Exploration, Spectrum of Life, World of Robots, Cradle of Design,  Space Navigation, Human and Health, World of Animals, Children's Rainbow Land, Spiders Exhibition, Earth Exploration, Home on Earth, Light of Wisdom, Information Era and Light of Exploration. And the 4 themed theaters inside the museum are - Space Theater, IMAX 3D Theater, IMAX Dome Theater and IWERKS Theater. So, visiting the museum you can have an in-depth knowledge about the modern science & technology and you can realise and enjoy different scientific fiction by visiting the theaters of the museum.

10. People's Square


     People's square is a large public space located at the  Huangpu District of Shanghai. It's the starting point of the major roadways of Shanghai e.g, Nanjing Road and Huihai Road starts from here. It is even connected by Shanghai metro and there is a subway under the People's Square metro station through which the road can be crossed. Earlier it was a private race course and now it has been transformed into a Public space which is currently home to Shanghai Grand Theater, Shanghai City Hall and Shanghai Museum, Shanghai City Urban Exhibition Center etc. So, it's a perfect place for relaxation from the hectic lifestyle of the city of Shanghai by enjoying movies from the Shanghai Grand Theater or by viewing different arts and artifacts from the Shanghai Museum.
