1. Assam is the largest tea producer in India and hence it's also referred to as the Tea Capital of India.


2. Asia's oldest and the world's second oldest oil field is situated at Digboi, Assam. The Digboi oil field was discovered in 1867, though digging for extracting oil started in 1889. And finally, to refine the crude oil extracted from the field, a refinery was set-up at Digboi back in 1901.


3. Both the world's largest and the smallest river island is situated in Assam on the Brahmaputra river. Majuli is the largest River Island in the world and Umananda is the smallest River Island in the world, both of them are situated in Assam. Umananda Island is also known as the Peacock Island.


4. Assam is home to the largest number of One Horned Rhinoceros in India and also in the whole world. The Kaziranga National Park is the biggest and the largest habitat for the One Horned Rhinoceros in Assam.


5. There's a bizzare truth of Jatinga, a small village located at the Borai Hills of Assam that every year in the winter, thousands of birds commit suicide here in Jatinga. The process has been continuing for over hundred years and reason behind the birds suicide is still unknown.

6. Assam is often referred to as the Gateway to the Northeastern states of India. Because, it is the most accessible of all the states that makes the entire northeast India and Assam serves as a connecting link between all these states.


7. The Bhupen Hazarika Setu(bridge), over the Brahmaputra river is the longest river bridge in India. It has a total length of 9.15 kms.


8. The Bogibil bridge is the longest road-cum-rail bridge in India. It has a total length of 4.94 kms, which connects Dhemaji district with Dibrugarh district of Assam.


9. Assam is home to the largest dry fish market in Asia. Jagiroad, a place located nearby the Guwahati city holds the fame as so.


10. There is a village in Assam which is famous for witchcraft and black magic. The name of the village is Mayong and is situated in the Morigaon district of Assam.
